Obama Wants Supreme Court Nominee to Have “Common Touch” Like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi….

May 24, 2009

Never mind that a “common touch” could have 300 million differing definitions from our 300 million Americans.

President Barack Obama has decided he wants a “common touch” in his appointee for the Supreme Court.

Talk about non-sense news.

What if the president had said he wanted “a fine legal mind.”  Check.  A ” fair minded litigator.”  Check.  In fact, there is everything about a “common touch” and nothing at all.

Your Granny would say about a “common touch,” “Oh  you know what we mean.”

Which means it is meaningless, really.  A figment of someone’s imagination.

Many would say Joe Biden has a “common touch.”  In fact, that’s exactly what the Washington Examiner says about him this Sunday.

How about “he says stupid stuff but he has a common touch.”  Check.

Or “he has been a United States Senator virtually all his entire adult life except for when he became Vice President but he has a common touch.”  Check.

How “common” is that?

We’ve heard people say that Nancy Pelosi has “a common touch.”  We’ve often thought maybe she’s just a little touched in the head, which has a lot more specific meaning than “common touch.”

“Common touch,” like “empathy,” is kind of a non-descriptive descriptor from the President honored for his eloquence.

As Senator Jon Kyle (R-AZ) said on Fox News Sunday, “I don’t want a Supreme Court judge that makes decisions on emotion or preconceived ideas.  If the law is on the side of the little guy, the little guy wins.  If the law is on the side of the big guy, the big guy wins.”

That we can all understand…

CNN on Obama’s “Common Touch”

By Bob Kemper
The Washington Examiner

For Joe Biden, gab is no gift. America’s garrulous vice president has a long record of verbal gaffes and a knack for saying exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time. Indeed, his flapping tongue has cost him dearly.

Biden sank his own bid for the presidency in 1988 with a series of inflated claims about his academic credentials and a partially plagiarized speech. Twenty years later, on the day he joined the 2008 presidential race, he eclipsed the news of his own candidacy and reinforced the notion that he represented the political past by describing a black challenger named Barack Obama as “clean.”

We’re No Longer Thinking Trough Problems? Gitmo, Stimulus, Cap and Trade are Just a Few Examples

May 22, 2009

If you had fallen asleep, say, last November, only to wake up this week, you might ask: “When did we stop thinking through the solutions to our problems?”

The answer, one might suppose, could be that if you have a Democrat in the White House and a huge Democrat majority in the House and Senate, no further thinking is required.

For example: after two years of preaching about the immorality of Gitmo, the Congress rejected the funding the White House requested to close Gitmo because they weren’t given a plan on where to put the prisoners.

So the President yesterday gave another hour-long sermon on Gitmo.  To which Harry Reid said, “We still need a plan.”

Not only that, the plan in the speech hasn’t been well thought out.

“There’s a whole contingent of issues that have to be well thought out before we ever agreed to bring inmates of that caliber into our system,” said Bryan Lowry, president of the National Council of Prison Locals, which represents federal correctional officers.

The stimulus, which spread out $787 billion of taxpayers money like manure on the land wasn’t read by any “lawmaker” that any member of the media has found.  Now Henry Waxman has offered to cure this problem on the Cap and Trade Bill: he’s hired a speed reader.

Rip van Winkle might just elect to go back to sleep fearing that this is going from really bad to really worse….

Here’s a thought: reactivate Alcatraz, put the Gitmo prisoners there and they can vote for Nancy Pelosi…..

Even Joe Biden says we aren’t thinking:

Was it Joe Biden, Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton that thought it was a good idea to encourage Russia to just hit the “reset” button?  Well, whoever…..

Obama Loses Photo Op War To Chavez (and the Saudi King, and….): Call Oprah!

The fact that American “lawmakers” are busy passing bills that they haven’t read seems to go hand in glove with a White House that hasn’t thought through the implications of many things.  The Obama Bow to the Saudi King smacks of obeisance; defined as “bending the head or body or knee as a sign of reverence or submission or shame;” or “the act of obeying; dutiful or submissive behavior with respect to another person.”

Is this what the White House wanted?  It is what they got.

The Brit Prime Minister got movies on CD from the President of the United States: not a very symbolic gift.  One was “Star Wars.”  And nobody in the White House even checked to see if these CDs can be watched in the UK (they use different digital formatting: the CDs given by Obama are “blank” on UK machines).

Don’t forget, many Presidents of the United States do their work in the Oval Office on the “Resolute Desk” which is made from the timbers of a Royal Navy Warship.  That’s symbolism.

JFK among otheres used the “Resolute Desk” — a gift from the UK.  Obama returned one gift from the UK: A Statue of Sir Winston Churchill.

The president gave the Queen of England an IPod — made in China.

The Secretary of State in this Obama Administration gave her Russian counterpart a giant red button which was supposed to be marked “reset.”  But the word was not spelled correctly or was just flat out the wrong word.  Besides:  to most Russians a giant red button is for launching nuclear weapons…..

So what are we resetting to with Russia?  Ask Joe Biden: it was his idea apparently to make the ‘reset” button.  Joe “Advisor to Many Presidents” Biden should have asked the staff to discuss with him how Vladimir Putin might reset — back to his KGB roots?

Hezbollah says Biden visit interferes in election

By BASSEM MROUE, Associated Press Writer

BEIRUT – Vice President Joe Biden reaffirmed strong American support for Lebanon’s government Friday as the deeply divided country prepares for crucial elections in two weeks that could see the pro-Western faction ousted by Iranian-backed Hezbollah and its allies.

Hezbollah has accused Washington of trying to influence the June 7 vote in favor of the pro-Western faction that dominates the government. The militant group said the visits by Biden and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton a month ago raised “strong suspicion and amounted to a clear and detailed interference in Lebanon’s affairs.”

Biden is the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit Lebanon in more than 25 years. Pro-Iranian militants targeted Americans with bombings and kidnappings in the 1980s during the civil war, leading to a 12-year U.S. ban on citizens traveling to the country that was lifted in 1997.

With Biden’s visit following so closely after Clinton’s, the attention from President Barack Obama‘s administration underscores concerns about a possible win by Hezbollah, which the U.S. considers a terrorist group.

“Lebanon has suffered terribly from war and we have a real opportunity now … for peace,” Biden said after talks with President Michel Suleiman. “So I urge those who think about standing with the spoilers of peace not to miss this opportunity to walk away from the spoilers.”

“Nobody liked it that we didn’t read the stimulus bill so we hired a speed reader for Waxman’s bill” – Congress

May 22, 2009

It seems so asinine that it should only be allowed in a movie like “Animal House.”  But it is in the nation’s House.  Nancy Pelosi’s House.  The House of Representatives.

The stimulus was $787 billion: the biggest spending bill ever in our 200 plus year history.  Yet it was rammed through Congress and no lawmaker admitted to reading it.

Now because, why, the world will end in September?  We have to ram through and enact as law a multi-billion dollar spending bill to lower carbon emissions into the air.

And OBVIOUSLY nobody has time to read and understand all this “jargon” before voting so we’ll hire a speed reader who will give us the Cliff Notes.

If this keeps up, torture will make a real come back and it won’t be confined to Gitmo….

The greenback may be headed for a tumble as intense selling is underway.

Obama-logic: What if JFK had said: “That golf playing fool Ike left me a mess”

May 22, 2009

This juicy piece of Obama-logic came out of a student’s mouth just yesterday: “I should never have gotten into college because my high school teachers sucked so bad.”

Well, it’s “badly” not bad — so the teachers and the student both have flaws.

But blaming the other guy seems to be an Obama fixation that isn’t something we want to teach our kids.

Do you recall Winston Churchill going on about “Nevil Chamberlain got us into this…”

Neville Chamberlain

How about Harry Truman: “That S.O.B. never told me anything and now we find out he was playing with weapons of mass destruction.”

How about “Ask not what your country can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your country.”

JFK might easily have said, “That golf playing fool Ike left me a mess…”

Did Lincoln carry on, “I told everyone Buchanan would get us into a Civil War!”

Well, we don’t teach American history the way we used to but we do demonize a lot in the history books the kids have now.  Prayer is bad.  Oil is bad.  Wall Street traders are bad.

Sound like any politicans you know?

Government jobs are good.  The environment is, as Nancy Pelosi said just yesterday, “the greatest challenge of our day.”  She said climate change is a “national security, economic, environmental health and moral issue.”

God must have annointed Nancy to tackle this challenge: never mind jobs and the economy and creating wealth.

Curing our climate problems and gaining government health care will bail us all out.

Really?  The rest of the world got rich on wind turbines and free medical care?

Barack Obama spent one of his hours as President of the United States attacking another President of the United States.

Obama’s speech wasn’t needed.  It only continued to stir up the pot that Obama himself stirred by releasing some of the government’s classified documents and Nancy Pelosi stirred by saying the CIA systematically and repeatedly lied to Congress.

If the speeech had a real purpose like spelling out the Obama plan to put all the prisoners somewhwere else to the satisfaction of Congressional lawmakers, I missed it.  Just after the speech, a dumbfounded Harry Reid said, “We still need a plan.”

This is good for the nation?  This is solving real problems: like the economy, the lack of jobs, and our crazy belief that cleaner air and government controlled health care will make the nation prosperous, create lots of high paying jobs?

I’ll give President Obama and Speaker Pelosi the Moral High Ground Award.  You’re both right.  Now shut up and get to work.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself.  And the guys that made this mess…..

Even the newspapers in California decided to blame the wrong guy this week: attacking the stupidity of the voters.

California’s voters should recall their elected representatives and allow their newspapers to fail.

And American voters should, as we are past Obama’s 100 day point, be a little less tolerant of this self-righteous blame game that is not creating wealth or jobs….

Politicians should leave judgements of history to others.  They have a lot of tough work to do without tackling that…..

Waxman-Markey And The Climate-Industrial Complex

May 22, 2009

Some business leaders are cozying up with politicians and scientists to demand swift, drastic action on global warming. This is a new twist on a very old practice: companies using public policy to line their own pockets.

By Bjorn Lomborg
The wall Street Journal

The tight relationship between the groups echoes the relationship among weapons makers, researchers and the U.S. military during the Cold War. President Dwight Eisenhower famously warned about the might of the “military-industrial complex,” cautioning that “the potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.” He worried that “there is a recurring temptation to feel that some spectacular and costly action could become the miraculous solution to all current difficulties.”

This is certainly true of climate change. We are told that very expensive carbon regulations are the only way to respond to global warming, despite ample evidence that this approach does not pass a basic cost-benefit test. We must ask whether a “climate-industrial complex” is emerging, pressing taxpayers to fork over money to please those who stand to gain.

This phenomenon will be on display at the World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen this weekend. The organizers — the Copenhagen Climate Council — hope to push political leaders into more drastic promises when they negotiate the Kyoto Protocol’s replacement in December.

The opening keynote address is to be delivered by Al Gore, who actually represents all three groups: He is a politician, a campaigner and the chair of a green private-equity firm invested in products that a climate-scared world would buy.

U.S. Congressman Henry Waxman (D-California) attends a panel ...

Naturally, many CEOs are genuinely concerned about global warming. But many of the most vocal stand to profit from carbon regulations. The term used by economists for their behavior is “rent-seeking.”

The world’s largest wind-turbine manufacturer, Copenhagen Climate Council member Vestas, urges governments to invest heavily in the wind market. It sponsors CNN’s “Climate in Peril” segment, increasing support for policies that would increase Vestas’s earnings. A fellow council member, Mr. Gore’s green investment firm Generation Investment Management, warns of a significant risk to the U.S. economy unless a price is quickly placed on carbon.

Even companies that are not heavily engaged in green business stand to gain. European energy companies made tens of billions of euros in the first years of the European Trading System when they received free carbon emission allocations.

American electricity utility Duke Energy, a member of the Copenhagen Climate Council, has long promoted a U.S. cap-and-trade scheme. Yet the company bitterly opposed the Warner-Lieberman bill in the U.S. Senate that would have created such a scheme because it did not include European-style handouts to coal companies. The Waxman-Markey bill in the House of Representatives promises to bring back the free lunch.

U.S. companies and interest groups involved with climate change hired 2,430 lobbyists just last year, up 300% from five years ago. Fifty of the biggest U.S. electric utilities — including Duke — spent $51 million on lobbyists in just six months.

What California, Pelosi, Waxman, Feinstein and Schwarzenegger Can’t Ignore: Except They’ve Already Proven Stupidity

What California, Pelosi, Waxman, Feinstein and Schwarzenegger Can’t Ignore: Except They’ve Already Proven Stupidity

May 22, 2009

How could California’s politicians turn the land of milk and honey into a candidate for bankruptcy or bailout?

By ignoring industry and wealth creation — just like Barack Obama is now doing on the national level.

So bad decision making jumps to mind.

The only growing “industry” in California is government; followed by health care.  And maybe health care is numero uno, to use the Californian language.

Since he became Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s California has added 50,000 new state employees.  These are highly paid people with full medical care.  It’s kind of a welfare for the white collar.  And what wealth do they add to the state?  You do the math: no products produced, no industry of reality.  But they do tax, collect fees and make laws which contributes to a hemorrhage of wealth producing businesses to Nevada and other locales.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein said development of solar and wind facilities in California’s Mojave Desert would violate the spirit of what conservationists had intended when they donated much of the land to the public.

My Vietnamese born wife and I drove through the Mojave not long ago and she said, “Worthless burnt rock.”

And that is what it will reamain if Feinstein gets her way.

California’s Congressman Henry Waxman, primary sponsor of the radical cap&trade/national eco-tax bill in the House, like Feinsten and a lot of other Californians, is willing to destroy real wealth producing industry with cap and trade while ignoring something literally beneath California’s feet: oil.

Wind, Solar Produce only 1% of Electric Needs; Need “Comprehensive Energy Plan”

Last September the San Franciso Chronicle reported this gem:

“Pelosi is holding firm to her view that more drilling won’t have any short-term impact on gas prices and would only lower prices by pennies a gallon 10 years from now, citing government figures. She’s plotting a vote on a bill to rein in speculators in energy markets when Congress returns next month.  Pelosi and other top Democrats see little reason to compromise. They expect to pick up seats in the House and Senate in November – and perhaps the White House, too – which would allow them to craft a more environmentally friendly energy policy next year. In the meantime, they plan to use their fundraising advantage to bash GOP candidates with ads linking them to oil companies.”

So for the short term, gas prices are fine so why drill — that’s what Pelosi said.  And besides, according the Pelosi’s logic, she could get more Democrats elected and obtain a more environmentally friendly energy policy. The problem now is short term and it may become long term (certainly it has already on the national level).  The problem is debt, borrowing, and no creating of wealth.

So screw wealth producing.

You can’t pay health care workers and government workers without someone creating wealth.

California has a shortage of people who create wealth: Hollywood just can’t keep up.

Yesterday, Nancy Pelosi, who has never said anything rediculously stupid, called climate change “the greatest challenge of our day.”  She said climate change is a national security, economic, environmental health and moral issue.

Here’s a national security challenge: China owns most of the American debt and will just watch us spend ourselves out of the superpower seat.  But we’ll be greener than China!  Congratulations.

China says rich nations must cut emissions by 40%; offers no Chinese cuts

California  has a pack of politicians that are thinking green and thinking us into more debt.  They had better think green like green money soon or they’ll be out of both.

They are currently working on how to slash expenses and con the Federal Government out of a bailout.  Nowhere have we heard about planning to create more wealth.

Green, gay and gutless.  We could pray for more wealth producing businesses but the state has chased them off — and prayer is frowned upon.

Obama Hasn’t Noticed People Leaving California and New York?

Obama, Pelosi, Waxman, Feinstein and Schwarzenegger: demonize wealth, oil, big business and prayer.  But love green, big government, government health care and debt spending.  Can this work?

Brilliant Michael Moore Attacks Those that Produce Wealth

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Firebrand filmmaker Michael Moore, who targeted the Bush administration in “Fahrenheit 9/11” and the healthcare industry in “Sicko,” is now focusing on the global economic meltdown.

The Oscar-winning director will release his as-yet-untitled documentary across North America on October 2, co-financiers Overture Films and Paramount Vantage said on Thursday.

“The wealthy, at some point, decided they didn’t have enough wealth,” the statement quoted Moore as saying.

“They wanted more — a lot more. So they systematically set about to fleece the American people out of their hard-earned money. Now, why would they do this? That is what I seek to discover in this movie.”

Overture said Moore was still working on the film, and was keeping plot details close to his vest in typical fashion.

Liberty Media Corp-owned Overture will handle the film’s domestic release both in theaters and ancillary outlets, while Viacom Inc-owned Paramount Vantage will handle international sales.

California Idea to Borrow Like Obama would only shift trouble to the future and set a “dangerous precedent” budget analysts says

May 21, 2009

The governor’s proposal for $5.5 billion in short-term borrowing would only shift trouble to the future and set a “dangerous precedent,” a top budget analysts said today.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s plan to sell $6 billion in revenue anticipation warrants to raise cash for the state government as it faces a $21.3 billion budget gap, the state’s budget watchdog office said on Thursday.

From The L.A. Times

Declaring that California faces thorny choices to avoid insolvency, the state Legislative Analyst said that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s plan to borrow and sell off key assets to help overcome a $21.3-billion deficit won’t work.

Updated at 11:38 a.m.: New estimates of revenue suggest the budget deficit may be as much as $3 billion larger than the governor estimated.

In a 28-page report released this morning, Legislative Analyst Mac Taylor said the governor’s proposal for $5.5 billion in short-term borrowing would only shift trouble to the future and set a “dangerous precedent.”

Taylor’s report also expresses doubts about the proposed $1-billion sale of a state-owned workers’ compensation insurance program and a plan to save $750 million on the state’s costly Medi-Cal program by potentially cutting healthcare reimbursements or slashing the number of eligible participants.

But the report says several of the governor’s budget proposal “merit serious consideration,” including eliminating some state boards, selling property and changing retirement health benefits for future state employees.

Taylor also emphasized a need for the Legislature to “make the difficult decisions” and act quickly, which would “likely boost the confidence of the public and investors in the budget process” as well as prevent an anticipated cash crush in early July.

39% Say U.S. Legal System Too Worried About Individual Rights Over National Security

May 21, 2009

In the tension between individual rights and national security, 39% of voters nationwide now believe that our legal system worries too much about protecting individual rights.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 24% believe our legal system worries too much about national security and 25% say the balance is about right.

Those figures confirm a shift in perceptions that was first recorded….

Lawyerly Obama Good at Bush Bashing, Bad on Morality, Cloaked in Self Righteousness

May 21, 2009

After Obama’s Notre Dame speech on abortion, Time Magazine’s Amy Sullivan likened Obama’s approach to “If you’re not with us, then let’s sit down over cookies and talk about it.”

But on George Bush, Dick Cheney, Gitmo and waterborading, lawyer Obama is mad and dying to get even with his predecessor and set the legal record straight.

Dick Cheney said, “In the fight against terrorism, there is no middle ground.”

But at Notre Dame and elsewhere, the lawyer in Obama, and the teacher in Obama, has always listened to all sides: even the terrorists side (can we still call them that?).

1.2 million abortions were performed in the U.S. in 2005, 25% below the all-time high of 1.6 million abortions in 1990.

There were exactly three terrorists “waterboarded” by the United States.  None suffered permanent harm.  All are alive, well fed and well cared for, by all accounts from both Democrats and Republicans.

But the president who has said he would rather look forward than back, took to the stage today to look back and dig deep.

Obama skated past the Notre Dame graduating class on Sunday, offering middle ground in the face of one million or so deaths every year.

Then today the President adamantly, vehemently defended the rights of a few hundred prisoners that are all probably terrorists.

On Sunday he was happy to discuss the continuing policy of the United States to kill over 1 million babies every year. Today he is outraged that the United States waterboarded three men that, many say, had information of a mass attack to kill Americans.

It just seems to us, that President Obama’s moral outrage at the Bush Administration lacks some reality and consistency of legal thinking….and might just be more political than moral preaching or legal fact finding.
