Obama White House “Dysfunction”

May 8, 2009

The report of how Air Force One suddenly appeared over New York City, surprising the White House and terrorizing New yorkers came out today.

The White House admitted to its own “dysfunction.”

The White House released the report late Friday — a time usually reserved for bad news the White House doesn’t want seen.  The announcement and photo were released late in the afternoon via e-mail, with a short written statement from White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.

There was no statement about the matter from President Obama, even though he said last month  the incident was an embarrassment, a “mistake” and vowed it would not be repeated.

Just like his omnibus spending bill loaded with earmarks and pork spending which was signed in private: this announcement was not made before cameras but in darkness.

The report concluded that “structural and organizational ambiguity” exists within the White House Military Office, which resulted in “confusion” between the Air Force and the the administration over the photo-op.

More troubling, the report also notes that “there are no clear procedures governing the approval process for the use of PAG aircraft, including Air Force One, for operations other than presidential support.”

The report said the operation was fraught with missed messages.

The president did not know about the flight beforehand — and neither did anyone else in the White House with authority over the office of Louis Caldera, who resigned today.

Caldera was asked why he did not inform his boss.

“When asked why he failed to do so, he did not offer a coherent explanation. He stated that it was not a conscious decision — he did not intend not to notify them,” it said. “Instead, he suggested that it may have been an oversight.”

Freedom Watch Says Obama’s Promise of Transparency Really Only Partial Promise, Partial Transparency — “Worse Than Bush”

May 8, 2009

Freedom Watch founder Larry Klayman said this afternoon that “President Obama is worse than President Bush” and the Obama Administration’s promise of transparency “Is really only selective transparency.”

“They released the records of the Gitmo interrogations but they refused to releases the photo of Air Force Once over New York until forced to do so now,” Klayman said.

The photo of Air Force One over New York, released today by the White House, was made public because Klaman submitted a Freedom of Information request to the government.

.

Klayman, who has gone to court a number of times in his fights with government officials, questions an administration that “thinks It OK to release “Torture documents” from the past administration but won’t account for its own actions — his words.

“”President Obama thinks it “cool” to release national intelligence documents concerning American intelligence gathering techniques of terrorists,” Klayman suggests, “but ironically terrorizes the people of Manhattan, who have the tragedy of September 11 emblazoned in their emotional psyches, but then refuses to release benign video of his own incompetence and lack of national security common sense.”

Earlier Klayman insisted that his Freedom Watch “will not rest until the truth about this episode is fully exposed.”

The man Obama picked to run the White House Office of Military Liaison, Louis Caldera, was a civilian.  He resigned today.  Most former presidents have had a military officer in this job.

The White House asked Mr. Louis Caldera why he scheduled the New York fly-over without informing the right people.

“When asked why he failed to do so, he did not offer a coherent explanation. He stated that it was not a conscious decision — he did not intend not to notify them,” it said. “Instead, he suggested that it may have been an oversight.”

OOPS!

George W. Bush White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said, “This will not go away.  It is President Obama’s.”

Louis Caldera, the man who organized the low-flying Air Force One plane that panicked New York City, has delivered his resignation.

From Fox News

Louis Caldera, the man who organized the low-flying Air Force One plane that panicked New York City, has delivered his resignation.

President Obama accepted the resignation on Friday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement.

Obama has also asked Jim Messina, his deputy chief of staff, and Defense Secretary Robert Gates or his designee “to jointly review the organizational structure of the White House Military Office and the reporting relationship of its components to the White House and the Air Force, and to make recommendations to him to ensure that such an incident never occurs again, Gibbs said.

In Obama Administration: Who Is Minding The Store? SecDef Critical Of Basic Planning

May 8, 2009

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has ordered a review of notification procedures for high-visibility “training events” such as the Air Force One photo shoot that flew over the Manhattan skyline last month, striking fear in the hearts of New Yorkers.

From Fox News

In a letter responding to a request by Sen. John McCain, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Gates wrote that he was concerned that the public had not been adequately informed about the flyover, a picture of which is expected to be released Friday by the White House.

“I am concerned that this highly public and visible mission did not include an appropriate public affairs plan nor adequate review and approval by senior Air Force and (Department of Defense) officials,” Gates wrote in the letter dated Tuesday and later obtained by FOX News.

Participants on the flight included one combat photographer, a standard crew complement for Air Force One and the two F-16s that accompanied it and no non-duty personnel or extra passengers, Gates wrote.

Gates wrote the mission was planned in late March 2009 and was coordinated by the White House Military Office’s Presidential Airlift Unit, which is an Air Force unit; Federal Aviation Administration liaisons; a Systems Operations Security team; traffic managers; New York air traffic control representatives and Newark and LaGuardia tower supervisors.

Gates wrote the FAA notified several agencies on April 24, 2009, about the impending event, including the U.S. Park Police, the New York City mayor’s office, the New York City Office of Emergency Management, New York City Police Department Operations, New Jersey State Police Regional Coordination Center and New Jersey area emergency operations centers in Newark, Jersey City, Bayonne, Hoboken and Elizabeth.

The plane flew at FAA-approved altitude, according to the defense secretary. In conjunction with the photo shoot, the pilots also practiced instrument approaches and landings at Atlantic City International Airport, an approved training location.

The April 27 flyover sparked chaos in the city since the public, and even Mayor Michael Bloomberg, had not been notified it would take place. Thousands of New Yorkers, reminded of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, quickly evacuated office buildings and emergency call centers were inundated.

“The reaction to the low-flying VC-25 and F-16 fighter aircraft over New York City (NYC) is understandable, and we deeply regret the anxiety and alarm that resulted from this mission,” Gates wrote.

Obama Terrific On Teleprompter; Bad On Planning

May 8, 2009

“… I rejected the original restructuring plan” that Chrysler LLC submitted for government loans, President Obama said April 30 in announcing his decision to force Chrysler into bankruptcy. “… And the standard I set was high — I challenged them to design a plan …”

But what was President Obama’s plan?  Apparently, to gift wrap the corporation for the American auto unions and Fiat and to screw the “lenders” who had kept the company afloat.  Obama derisively called them “speculators.”

On Gitmo: we’ll close it without delay.  The plan to relocate the inmates?  Aint got one.

So without a plan, the Congress refused to cough up any money.  House Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey (D-Wis.) told the White House “when they have a plan, they’re welcome to come back and talk to us.”

Defying Logic: Obama Wants Congress To Give Him Money Without Plans (And The Money Is Borrowed)

But the president pretty much did get away without a plan on the stimulus.  He called the situation an emergency, allowed Nancy Pelosi to spread out the details to her committee chairman and rammed the legislation home before anyone could read it.  That was the White House plan.

Health care? No plan.  Like the stimulus, the Congress should work out the details President Obama says.

Hey, he got away with that on the stimulus, right?

There seems a lack of proper planning throughout this White House.

And it didn’t start with cinco de cuatro.  It didn’t start by sending Air Force One careening over New York for a $3.00 photo that ended up costing closer to $1 million.  And it didn’t start with Air Force One going to Iowa for a 15 minute talk on saving energy…..

Cap and trade and the total re-engineering of the nation’s energy system to remove coal and oil?  We don’t know the total plan or much of the costs either.

The Obama White House needs a reset button.  And they need to plan…..

Self Defeating U.S. War Strategy

May 8, 2009

THE most effective weapon terrorists have found to wield against us isn’t the headline-grabbing suicide bomber or even the deadly roadside bomb, the IED.

Such weapons can harm us, but they can’t stop us. Terror’s super-weapon is the lie.

Lying about civilian casualties is the one sure way to impede or even halt US (or Israeli) operations, to force such tight restrictions on our troops that they can’t win.

The casualty con’s so effective as both propaganda and tactic that terrorists everywhere have adopted the technique. It’s been so successful that our enemies long ago transitioned to the next phase: creating civilian casualties and blaming us.

It works. The media love the charge. Our troops and pilots are always guilty — even if proven innocent. Because so many on the left want us to be guilty.

Few journalists bother to investigate. If the Taliban, al Qaeda, Hezbollah or Hamas says it, it must be so. In Media Wonderland, terrorists never lie. Now every successful strike on a Taliban target generates the instant claim that the dead were all civilians.

And it isn’t just the media who back the Taliban. The Obama administration — a case study in instant foreign-policy ineptitude — signs up, too.

This week, Taliban terrorists publicly beheaded three civilians in Afghanistan’s Farah province, then herded women and children into compounds from which they fought government forces and US advisers.

With a vicious ground battle under way, the Talibs knew attack aircraft would appear. According to military sources, they set up the target. And, just in case, they slaughtered those women and children with grenades before any aircraft appeared. The entire massacre was a planned media event.

White House to Release Photo From New York Flyover

May 6, 2009

The White House plans to release a photo from the controversial New York City flyover of an Air Force One backup plane, despite earlier claims that there was no need to release any images.

Fox News

The White House plans to soon release a photo from the controversial Air Force One-style flyover of Manhattan last week, despite claiming earlier that there was no need to release any official images from the incident.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters Wednesday that an internal report will probably be completed this week.

“We’ll release its findings and release a photo,” he said.

That was after Gibbs indicated Tuesday that the White House would not release any images.

“I’ve watched CNN,” he said at the time, noting the considerable coverage from amateur footage. “I didn’t notice a lack of archival material from that flight.”

The flyover triggered panic among New Yorkers as well as the internal review by the Obama administration.

China’s Military Build-Up Meant To Take On U.S., Says Joint Chiefs Chairman

May 4, 2009

China‘s build-up of sea and air military power funded by a strong economy appears aimed at the United States, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Monday.

Admiral Michael Mullen said China had the right to meet its security needs, but the build-up would require the United States to work with its Pacific allies to respond to increasing Chinese military capabilities.

“They are developing capabilities that are very maritime focused, maritime and air focused, and in many ways, very much focused on us,” he told a conference of the Navy League, a nonprofit seamen’s support group, in Washington.

“They seem very focused on the United States Navy and our bases that are in that part of the world.”

China in March unveiled its official military budget for 2009 of $70.24 billion, the latest in nearly two decades of double-digit rises in declared defense spending.

Beijing bristles at criticism, saying its spending is line with economic growth and defense needs, and its budget remains a fraction of the Pentagon‘s.

Mullen acknowledged that “every country in the world has got a right to develop their military as they see fit to provide for their own security.”

“The Obama White House Press Corps is In Love”

May 2, 2009

“The Obama White House Press corp is in love,” said Karl Rove, “Which explains a lot.”

The love affair explains the lack of harball questions during the “Some enchanted evening press conference.”

The love affair explains why no member of the media has said, “Mister President, we are talking here about a cabinet meeting on the flu and you are telling Americans how to wash their hands.  Has this ever happened before?”

The media in love means Obama’s first cabinet meeting was about saving $100 million: a crumb in the bakery so to speak.

The media in love means the president can denigrate some of his own voters: tea party folks — without much of a whimper from the media….

The love affair explains getting away with murder by killing three Somali teens in mid-negotiation: then bragging that the next Supreme Court justice will be empathetic.

The media in love explains why someone in the White House thought it was a cool idea to buzz New York a la 9/11 using Air Force One.

The media in love means the president can ignore the claims of senior creditors in the Chrysler case, putting the unions ahead, and then leaking that the senior creditors are “un-American.”

The media in love means Mrs. Obama can wear $450 shoes to a food bank but when John McCain and Fred Thompson wore shoes the media considered too expensive: YIKES what a flurry.

The media in love explains a lot, as Karl Rove pointed out.  And a lot of what it explains concerns a self aggrandizing chief executive that is getting away with murder.

Obama: So far, a festival of photo ops, ego, self aggrandizement

May 2, 2009

Come on, who’s surprised? The White House-engineered photo-op of low-flying Air Force aircraft that caused terror in New York City this week epitomizes the Age of Obama. What better way to mark 100 days in office than with an appalling exercise in pointless taxpayer-funded stagecraft?

The superficiality, the unseriousness, the hubris, the obliviousness to post-Sept. 11 realities: They were trademarks of the Obama campaign, and they are the tattoos on his governance.

By Michelle Malkin

He never leaves home without his teleprompter. All the Obama world’s a stage. Or a world ready to be staged.

So is it any wonder he would staff his White House military office with a clueless paper pusher who saw nothing wrong with spending inordinate government resources – and re-creating Sept. 11 havoc – to update Air Force One publicity shots? And who planned, believe it or not, to do the same in the District next month, where the Sept. 11, 2001, jihadists murdered 53 passengers and six crew members onboard American Airlines Flight 77, and 125 military and civilian personnel inside the Pentagon? All for some publicity shots.

No one should be shocked. Remember: Barack Obama is the frivolous man who concocted his own presidential-looking great seal before he was elected. An ego big enough to publicly display a ridiculous “Vero Possumus” (“Yes, we can” in Latin) motto and a regal eagle with the Obama campaign logo emblazoned on its chest is an ego capable of far more reckless things.

Mr. Obama orchestrated a grand photo-op in Berlin to declare his world citizenship at the Siegessaeule – the Victory Column – a soaring monument of arrogance originally built to commemorate 19th-century Prussian victories and championed by Adolf Hitler and Third Reich architect Albert Speer. Mr. Obama manufactured his own Open Temple of the One in Denver for the Democratic National Convention last summer, replete with fake Greek columns.

Since taking office, Mr. Obama has remained in perpetual campaign mode, idling in Sept. 10 gear. The photo album has filled up quickly with megalomaniacal moments. When his massive pork-filled stimulus package was in trouble, he ran to Fort Myers, Fla., for a carefully choreographed revival meeting with his most ardent supporters. “It is such a blessing to see you. Oh! Gracious God, thank you so much!” one young booster exclaimed.
